October 11, 2014 Big Loop Hunter Pace

Last pace finished with perfect cool riding weather. 27 riders left and all came back smiling, which makes us smile too. Many jumped several of the 26 jumps and all enjoyed the colors on the hills, the crunch of the leaves and good friends on good horses.

The riders came back to the barn to share stories, the pot luck lunch with some very tasty treats and excellent warm chilis. It is always fun to sample everyone's favorites. Who made the pineapple dump cake? Will you share the recipe?

Fun also to have a group of Houghton College riders go on an adventure trail ride. The girls all seemed excited and enjoyed the Trail, and camping out in the fall chill evening. Their S'mores smelled wonderful on fall air.

Congratulations to all our riders! We also tallied the series end points for High Point awards for the Novice abd Open groups. For those that are new to the Big Loop, points are tallied on individual riders, as we know teams can change during the season. Some very dedicated riders made nearly every pace this year, and posted great times thruout the summer. Results are listed below Facebook, at BigLoopHunterPace.

We appreciate all of our riders support and getting to know new friends. It's been a great season, and we look forward to seeing you all next year. Check Facebook and/or www.ChandelleFarm.com for updates thru the winter. Thank you all for your support over the Series. Have a great and hopefuly easy winter with lots of riding on good horses!

Congratulations to all!

September 20, 2014 Big Loop Hunter Pace

Now its four in a row with great riding weather and no rain! Will the charm hold for October? We hope so. A good day of riding, with a more challenging trail than we thought it was...some of our riders got creative in their interpretation of the directions, and took longer routes than we had described, but all returned with positive accounts of the fun they had. In spite of a tractor malfunction creating a minor obstacle on the trail, we still had 27+ jump options, so there was something for almost every one. Some new riders joined us and we hope they will be back for the last pace of the season, on October 11.

October is the final pace of the series, and we will have a post pace party, so bring a dish to pass, and enjoy a late lunch while we tabulate the awards and high point winners. Bring a friend or two and have some fun.

Results are listed below, and pictures have been posted on Facebook. Our next pace is October 11, Rain or Shine! Hope to see you all there. Thank you all for your support.

Three paces in a row with great weather day--cool, sunny and perfect riding temps! The riders enjoyed another good trail, 24+ jump options, including some new bigger jumps and great riding!

July marks the halfway point of the pace season, which means summer is going by too quickly. Some new riders joined us and we hope they will be back for the rest of the series!

August will be the inaugural AERC Endurance ride, the Big Loop Boogie, and we are excited to have a full ride for this new challenge. We'd love to see the same number of riders at the September pace...so think about coming, bringing a friend or two and have some fun.

The June pace had another great weather day--cool, sunny and perfect riding temps! The riders enjoyed a good trail, 20+ jump options and great riding!

June is a busy month, and we were glad to see that riders chose the Big Loop as a weekend event. Some new riders joined us and we hope they will be back for the rest of the series! I think they thought it was a good choice. The next pace is July 26, and will be the mid-point of the summer series. Hard to believe the summer will be half over. It goes so quickly!

The first pace of the season had what was surprisingly a great weather day, after heavy rains during the week. Ride weather was perfect, not too cool or warm, and the riders who took a chance on the day had a great time. We had a small group, but all enjoyed themselves. Our 'stand-in' timer had the first bear sighting of the season! A neat treat!

The start of a season is always fun, and we are looking forward to another great summer series and making many new friends. We have added a sanctioned AERC endurance ride in August, so make sure you watch for news on the "Big Loop Boogie".

October 10, 2013 Big Loop Hunter Pace

The October pace finished the season on a high and mostly dry note, with the riders enjoying perfect riding temperatures, and a scenic ride. Colors changing, leaves falling and the cooler tmeperature made for a perfect fall ride.

The warm tmeperatures made the after party a nice treat, with hot chili, mac and cheese and some lovely desserts to share, as well as stories to swap. Thanks to all for coming, bringing yummy food and good friendship to the party, and to the paces all summer long.

A group of Trail students from Houghton College joined us for the pace, making the ride as part of their course studies. Fun to see the large group of riders heading out quiet and coming back laughing. They took advantage of the weather for a swim in the lake, before heading back to school.

While people chatted, the high point results were tabulated, checked and rechecked, and then reviewed one final time. In a season long and hard fought battle between two teams, the leading Open High Point winners ended the season in a TIE!! Sisters Jackie and Jill Valint, and mom-daughter duo Cindy and Kristin Leason managed to tally up the same overall points, and we congratulate them all on a great season! Our Reserve High Point champions were Toni Schueler and Linda Kotlarsz. Congratulations to all our riders and to our High Point Champions.

The end of a season is always sad, but we had a great group of riders this year, as well as a very successful Long Distance Riding clinic. We are exploring the idea of a sanctioned ride next year, in addition to our Hunter Paces, so watch the web site and Facebook for pictures and updates. Thank you all for your support this year. We hope it continues and grows next year!

Happy Holidays, Good Riding and Good Tidings to all!

The September pace was a wet one, and the weather helped our riders deide on the shorter trail for our 'long' ride. Probably a good choice, and the riders still had fun, with good competitive times. A couple of our Distance clinic riders braved the elements, practicing their endurance skills, and came back with smiles,, always a good sign.

Pictures will be posted on facebook, so check them out. And plan now for the last pace, October 12. An end of season dish to pass and high point awards will end the summer series, so hope you join us. As always, we will ride Rain or Shine!

August 24, 2013 Big Loop Hunter Pace

The August pace gave us perfect weather--not too hot, and great sunny day. Great to see our returning riders, and to welcome new ones to the fun! Perfect weather, great trails and some awesome new jumps! Really nice to see a returning mom and daughter team. What fun to see families riding together! In the Open division, it was a mom and daughter duo that took first place, by a margin of seconds! Times were very close for our teams this month. Our riders are getting too savvy! Or just that good!

One of our new riders took a longer route than expected, but came back to the barn still smiling, and with the observation that 'while I missed a turn, I had a really great trail ride!' Love that attitude!

Results are listed below. The Open riders had a challenging group, and the ongoing competiton between Jackie and Jill and Kriston and Cindy makes for interesting times. The large Novice group provided stiff competiton for the teams. Good competitive times for both divisions, and missing July didn't hurt the spirit.

Congratulations to Jackie and Jill Valint on winning the poker pot!

Thank you all for coming and for your continued support of our paces. September and the longest ride of the season should provide more fun, and for those long distance riders, a good warm up for competitive rides. We continue to work on new trails planned and new jumps so there should be plenty of variety and fun for all.

Pictures will be posted on facebook, so check them out. And plan now for the next pace, September 21. We are always happy to see new riders, and especially to see them return from the ride smiling. As always, we will ride Rain or Shine!

Important note!!!!! The October date has changed to October 12. Please mark your calendars with the new date, and plan on bringing a dish to pass, and enjoying an end of the season celebration.

June 22, 2013 Big Loop Hunter Pace

The June pace was hot and dry with a good group. Perfect weather, great trails and some awesome new jumps! Really nice to see a returning mom and daughter team. What fun to see families riding together! The sisters were the lead team for this pace, with not too much debate on the proper speed.

Results are listed below. The Open riders had a challenging group. Good competitive times were noted, and the season is off to a nice start. Our Novice riders were very close to the Open time, so the Open riders need to be watching for future contenders!

Thank you all for coming and for your continued support of our paces. This season should be one of the best yet, or at least we hope it will be. We have new trails planned and new jumps in the thought process, so there should be plenty of variety and fun for all. Dry riding the day after the first day of summer should be a good sign. Here's to a great series and lots of wonderful riding!

May 18, 2013 Big Loop Hunter Pace

The first pace of the season was a great one! Perfect weather, great trails and a super attendance! It was fun to catch up with friends, and to meet some new contenders. Hoping that the group of people that came is a sign of a good summer. Nice to see the 'pink ladies plus 1' back on the trail. And really nice to see a new father-son team. We are always happy to see new riders, and especially to see them return from the ride smiling.

First pace is always fun, as we never know what to expect on the trails, especially after the many wind storms this year. But dry weather, a trusty chainsaw and hard work got the trail in order quickly. Some new jumps were set, and that will continue thruout the season.

Results are listed below. The Open riders had a big group, with two teams from last year 'moving up'. Good competitive times were noted, and the season is off to a close start. Our novice riders were new to the pace, and we sure hope to see them thru the summer.

Thank you all for coming and for your continued support of our paces. This season should be one of the best yet, or at least we hope it will be. With new trails planned and new jumps in the thought process, there should be plenty of variety and fun for all. And congratulations to our new mothers! Back in the saddle after only 8 weeks, and having a good ride! Here's to a great summer and lots of wonderful riding!

We are also offering for the first time, a Distance riding clinic at Big Loop, Scheduled for June 1 and 2, check the website for details. There are still a few openings left for riders, so if you are interested in learning more about another challenge for you and your horses, come join us. And if your horse isn't ready, come and spend Saturday auditing.

October 20, 2012 Big Loop Hunter Pace

The October pace was a fun day, with a good group of riders and some EXCELLENT food. Weather wasn't perfect, but still very rideable.

The last pace of the season is always bittersweet for me...end of fun rides, and onset of winter, and a celebration of a great season with great competitors.

And if anyone took pictures while out on the trail, please feel free to send them to me, or to post them there. I'd love to see them.

Our high point awards were awarded, and we are pleased to congratulate Kristin and Cindy Leason, the Novice High Point Champions. Jen Deneka was Reserve High Point Novice. All three will be competing at the Open level next year!

The Open High Point Champions, in a 'race' to the finish, were Jacki and Jill Valint, who had a great season. Reserve Open High Point Champions were Amy Mount and Jamie Murphy, only one point behind the Open Champs. Looks like there will be some additional challenges ahead next year. I can't wait!

Thank you all for coming and for your continued support of our paces. We couldn't do it without you. I'm already looking ahead to next season, with new trails planned and new jumps in the thought process. Good luck to the expectant mothers. We look forward to new riders next year! September 22, 2012 Big Loop Hunter Pace

The September pace had a good turnout and perfect weather (thanks weather guessers for being wrong about the rain)! The trail proved interesting, and given the forecast, only the shorter trail was used, but still the longest of the season so far.

We appreciate the support of our riders and some who couldn't join us for this ride. A donation will be made to the Bernice Pierson scholarship fund, from the proceeds of this pace.

The August pace had a great turnout and perfect weather (again!!)! The trail proved interesting, and the Poker Run added some additional challenges. The buckets were hung with care Friday evening, but apparently a few came down over night. I blame nosy deer, but who knows...it didn't stop our intrepid gamblers, who all came back with full hands. The poker run winner was Jen Deneka/Patti Nicholas.

This pace, we had two riders who were using helmet or chest cams to video their rides. What a fun idea! Hoping they share the videos on the BigLoopHunterPace facebook page. Pictures will be posted there as well, so take a look!

The July pace had a a really good turnout and perfect weather! The trail proved interesting, and even with rain on Friday, was dry and the weather was cool, the ride was enjoyed by all. Two severe windstorms between the June pace and this one made trail clearing a bit of a challenge. It continues to amaze me that the trees fall directly over the trail, not off in the acres of woods, but we (Randy) prevailed and got done and jumps set. People had some interesting detours, but all came back to the barn smiling.

October proved to be a fun ride, for the last pace of the season and while cloudy, rain held off, and the cool temperature made the apres pace chili and other goodies even more welcome. Once again, a super group of riders, with many newcomers. We want to thank all of you for your support throughout the season. It has been a treat to meet new friends, and greet old ones every month. We missed some of our regular riders this year, and hope they will return next year ready to ride! It has been a good year, and tho I hate to think it will be 7 months to the next pace, it is only 7 months!

No bear sightings this trip...the freakishly amazing team must have convinced them to roam elsewhere in September. The leaves were mostly up, but the ones that fell covered the trails for a quiet ride, and many got a glimpse of the open woods and terrain. It always amazes me when I ride there to see the variety of land contours.

I like the fact that while many of our riders are competitive, that doesn't interfer with them be willing to lend a helping hand to other riders on other teams if necessary. Thanks to the folks who gave up time to help others not only in October, but thruout the season. That spirit is what I love about the 'Horse Community'.

The last pace means High Point scores were calculated, and after a little drama, and a lot of math, we were excited to congratulate our high point winners. This year's Open winners rode hard, and fast, and were chased by an up and coming sister team, who will give the "Freakishly Amazing" Pink ladies a run for their money next year.

The Novice High Point Winners had an excellent season, and got the well deserved win. The Reserve High point rider also had a great season, and did it with many different teammates.

Results for the October pace are listed below. Pictures will be posted on Facebook, so search for BigLoopHunterPace. Congratulations to all!

Have a great winter and thank you again for the support and fun throughout the season!

The September pace turned out to be one of the best riding days this year…perfect temperatures, nice colors and best of all, no bugs. We had a great group of riders, who, although many did variations on the specified trail, seemed to have a good time overall. Times were a bit further apart this trip than in previous paces, but given the variety of loops made, guess it wasn’t a surprise!

Two of our teams spotted a bear, and one team was not to be deterred from the route, chasing the bear up the trail, until the bear gave way. Three mother-daughter teams makes me miss my girl for these rides, but fun to see nevertheless. We were delighted to have new riders, and hope they enjoyed themselves enough to come back for the last pace of the season. One young lady who excels at walk-trot showing even managed a canter in a few spots, with ease. Others enjoyed the jumps, and we all know that makes Randy happy and willing to build more…

Our last pace of the season is October 22 (remember the date change) and we hope to see all of you there. I would love to see all of the riders who have been to the Loop paces show up at once! Can you imagine? Spread the word and bring friends!

We will be doing year end awards and a little lunch to end the season, so bring a dish to pass if you’d like. Join us for the October 22 pace, for a great ride, good food and fun!

The August pace was blessed with perfect weather, and was a great day for a pace. We were happy to see some new riders, including some making the drive from the Rochester area, and hope they all found the trip worthwhile. This month's trail was a lovely ride thru the woods, with the added challenge of collecting a poker hand along the route. The times for this ride were impressively close, once again with "Freakishly Amazing" riders Alisha Schroeder and Kathleen Biryla finishing first, just a minute over on the times. The novice second and third places were separated by a mere 20 seconds!

Missed some of our regulars but hoping all will return next pace for the longest ride of the season. Randy will be back and in charge of the jumps, so please look forward to Sept 24 for a fun trip.

Please note a date change for the October Pace from October 15 to October 22. We will as always have the year end awards and a lunch to share on October 22, so we hope you can accomodate our date change.

Congratulations to our August riders. The results are listed below. A great ride with excellent times! Well done ALL! Pictures are posted on facebook. Look for BigLoopHunterPace.

The end of July was greeted with a great day for a pace. Not too warm, not too wet. And lots of great riders. This month's trail had the added features of enhanced jumps for some of our more aggressive riders as well as beautiful trails thru the woods. The times for this ride were impressively close, with "Freakishly Amazing" riders Alisha Schroeder and Kathleen Biryla finishing first, just a minute over on the times.

Happy to see new riders coming to the pace, and missed some regulars due to a hay wagon/toe incident that made boot wearing uncomfortable. Hoping all will return next pace.

The next pace, rain or shine, will be August 20, and we hope to see you all there. August 20th, we will have the Poker Run in addition to the pace, so please mark the dates in your calendar and plan to ride ride ride! Tell your friends, spread the word. The more the merrier! June 18 was a super riding day for the second pace of the season, with sunshine and not to warm temepratures. The trail proved to be a scenic ride that all enjoyed. With good hills, and water crossings from the previous rains, it was the right combination for fun. The times for this ride were impressively close, with Open riders Andrea Boon and Larissa Strappello finishing in first place only 29 seconds over the optimim time, and second place a not very distant 59 seconds over...

We are delighted to once again have new riders join our group and we hope to see more of them this summer. And the competition between the Pink Ladies and newly renamed Red Hot Gramas (formerly known as the Mauve Mommas) is already heating up. who knows what will happen next...

After a long wet spring, the first pace arrived with, surprise, more rain! But the Gods smiled on Pace day, and shut the water off so the first pace of the season, the riders stayed dry. I think weather discouraged people from coming out, but those who came, saw, rode and had fun! It is always a treat to see friends after the long winter, and to see the plans and rivalries for this year shaping up.

Two of our competitors, new moms both, were back in fine form. new faces joined our group and we hope to see more of them this summer.

Special treat for me was to have my daughter there, on a visit from Seattle, altho she missed her jumping horse, at home in Washington. Still, nice to get some rides in with her, and to hear her comments on the many improvements on trails and new jumps. We are trying to figure out the Star Trek transporter thing, so she can ride at the Loop again!

The October Pace was an awesome end to a great season. New faces and old friends were there to share the day, share some laughs and good food. The fall colors and some challenging new jumps coupled with some "trash talk" among some competitors made for a fun event. Two teams have been in a close race thruout the summer, seesawing back and forth in the ribbons. Both teams, the 'pink ladies' and the 'mauve mommas' came to win--or at least have fun trying. Check out the pictures on face book. Trailer decorations, horse painting and signage made passersby take a second look!

After the ride, we had a great potluck lunch, with excellent treats. Thanks to all for bringing so many goodies and sharing. It was a fun way to end the season. Once the ribbons were announced for the October pace, the mauve mommas had to 'eat crow' in the form of decorated sugar cookies and bow to the winners, Kathleen Biryla and Alisha Schroeder. The difference in their times was less than a minute!

After taking the time to compute the final high point awards, it turned out that there was only 0.4 points difference between first, second and third places! Congratulations to Bernice Pierson, our Open High Point Champion, and to Reserve Open champions, Kathleen Biryla and Alisha Schroeder who beat Tony and Linda by 0.1 point! Well done, all of you!

The Novice Division High point winners were Faith Stiles and Emily Kuryla, who were consistently high in the ribbons all seasons. Stephanie Donlon was Reserve Novice High Point! They will be moving up to Open next year, which will certainly add to the fun!

The ribbons were awarded and our high point winners stepped up on the 'podium' to recieve their awards. Pictures will be posted on the 'BigLoopHunterPace' facebook site, so please check them out, and feel free to post your own as well. Search on 'BigLoopHunterPace' and become a fan.

The September Pace proved to be another great ride. The long trail, fall colors and some challenging new jumps (not to mention the challenge of following the trail) made for a fun experience for our riders.

Once again we had some new faces as well as old friends. The September ride is typically our longest ride of the season, and our riders were up for the challenge, completing the approximate 12 mile ride within 2 minutes of optimum times. Cool weather and no bugs added to the fun.

The Open division is getting VERY competitive, with riders now "trash talking" or at least moderately teasing each other, with posting signs and some intimidation too! Except that no one really seems to be intimidated.

Pictures will be posted on the Big Loop Hunter Pace facebook site, so please check them out, and feel free to post your own as well.

October is nearly here, and sadly, the last pace of the season, on October 16. The August Pace and Poker run had some of the best weather yet, and was a great ride. The riders liked the trail, the new jumps, and the challenge of fishing for cards in trees…

Our Riders are getting pretty darn good at riding the optimum times---the first and second place teams in the open division were separated by a mere 14 seconds!

Once again we had some new faces as well as old friends. Good conversations in the barn after the ride, and we even had a bite of lunch with some of our competitors (who obviously know how to travel to horse events---lots of wonderful food!) One young lady went home with a nice poker pot, and we heard she will be using it to help fund attending the Lendon Grey Dressage for Kids! Love to hear that it’s going to a great adventure and we wish her luck.

Pictures will be posted on the Big Loop Hunter Pace facebook site, so please check them out, and feel free to post your own as well.

September is coming up so darn quickly! We have a nice long ride (for those who want to go a bit less adventurous, we will have an alternate shorter route) but both will offer plenty of jump opportunities and hopefully the start of lovely fall colors in the scenery. The next pace is September 25. Come early, bring friends and enjoy the day. We will work on making it another good ride with some challenging trails and exciting jump efforts, large and small, so bring your favorite horses, a few friends, some snacks and enjoy the next ride. The July pace is history, which means the Series is half over. Yikes!!! Summer is flying by, but with lots of good riding days ahead of us, we still have lots of time to enjoy our horses. July was not quite as hot as previous weeks, and the trail thru the woods offered some relief from the sun (yes, sun!). We had a great group with competitive times. Thanks to all who came to have some fun at the Loop and we hope you'll all come back and bring friends!!

Glad to see more new faces this month and we hope they will become 'old friends' as the season progresses. Every pace has had new attendees, which is awesome. It would be amazing if all our newcomers came at the same time to one (or two) of the paces. We again appreciate the good advertising from 'word of mouth' and your votes of confidence. We are always happy to hear the pace made the travel to get there worthwhile! And even more important, that folks want to come back.

Times for the paces were pretty closely bunched, with only a minute and a half two separating our first and second place teamsteams. Winning novice time was only 40 seconds off the ideal time. Time for the Pace managers to get more creative and start changing things up.....

Pictures will be posted on the Big Loop Hunter Pace facebook site, so please check them out, and feel free to post your own as well.

The next pace is Augusst 21, and we will be doing the Poker Run. Buy a hand for $10, pick cards up along the route, and the best hand will will half of the poker pot. It should be another fun one. We will work on making it another good ride with some challenging trails and exciting jump efforts, large and small, so bring your favorite horses, a few friends, some snacks and enjoy the next ride. The May pace was a perfect start to the season! Great weather, and a super group of 30 riders made for a most encouraging start of the series. We were delighted with the number of riders who came out to have some fun at the Loop and we hope you'll all come back and bring frineds!!

It was great to see familiar faces and to catch up after a long long winter, and to meet so many new friends this pace. Fun to hear who finished school, that one of our riders is expecting and glad to know folks are back in the saddle after some medical issues. We are always happy to hear the pace made the travel to get there worthwhile! And even more important, that folks want to come back. Things went pretty good for the first pace of the season, in spite of a few mechanical issues for some participants.

On a personal note, I was thrilled to see Chandelle High Skymaster and Connie Bates drive in with Carrie and her horse. Sky was purchased by Connie last fall, and went home with her from the Loop in October. This was his first trip out for an adventure and he seemed pretty darn happy! What a great pair they make.

October 17 was the last pace and in some ways my least favorite--because its the last one of the season!! This year, we had the added excitement and consternation of a snowstorm. However, the brave souls who came to ride enjoyed the trip. The scenery was an interesting mix of fall colors enhanced with a bit of white. The post ride chili was most welcome and some of our exhbitors from previous rides joined us for food and conversation.

The High POint scores were tabulated during lunch and the results for the Open division put the team of Linda Kotlarsz and Toni Schueler on top with Bernice Pierson as reserve. Interstingly this year, we had many riders who chose to go open more than novice, so there was no single high point rider in novice. We were glad to hear positive coments about this pae, as well as thruout the season, and most important, that folks want to come back next year!

WE hope you had a fun season, and great holidays. Tentative dates are posted for 2010, so check the website for updates. We know you all have many choices for your fun budgets and we appreciate your support throughout the season. We hope to see you next year! We will always ride Rain or Shine!

Weather cooperated and the rain held off until after the last riders were back at the barn! We had many compliments on the trail and the jumps. Always nice to hear.

This pace, the open route was the long (about 12 miles) ride and the novice was shorter (about 7 miles) routes. As we did last year, for year end high points, a "difficulty coefficient" for the open long route is factored into the points calculations.

October 17 is the last pace and in some ways my least favorite--because its the last one of the season!! However, it is always a good ride, and this year should be no exception. With luck, the colors will be at peak. We will also be offering post ride chili and a chance to socialize for a bit while final points are tabulated for the year end high points. Please join us and if you'd like, bring a dish to share.

Bring your favorite horses, a few friends, some snacks and enjoy the last ride of the season. We'd love to end the year with a record turnout so spread the word! We know you all have many choices for your fun budgets and we appreciate your support throughout the season. We hope to see you next month, and hope again, for good weather, but as always, we will ride Rain or Shine!

Congratulations to our September riders. A long ride with good times! Well done! Results are listed below.

The August pace weather cooperated with warm temperatures, even tho it rained on Friday. Riders didn't get too wet on their tours, and most participated in the Poker run as well. Becky Holman was lucky at cards and went home with the Poker pot!

We welcomed new faces again to this pace, and were gratified to hear the pace was worth the trip. One team of first times may have had beginner's luck and won the Novice Division!

We continue to work on jumps and Septmber will see between 30 and 40 jump opportunities. Randy loves seeing those hoofprints on both sides of the fences!

September 26 is the next pace, and the longest ride of the season, so plan on seeing good fall colors, and enjoying a tour of the Loop! There will be a shorter 'Loop' as well, for Novice riders. We hope to see you next month, and hope again, for a little drier weather, but as always, we will ride Rain or Shine!

Congratulations to our August riders. Well done! Results are listed below.

Halfway thru the season, and it seems to be racing by—my usual complaint—summer goes too fast! The July pace was somewhat drier than June and we had a great turnout. Several new riders joined us for their first time, and while a few took unplanned alternate routes, all seemed to enjoy the ride.

Two teams had the thrill of seeing bears crossing the path, the first team seeing a youngster, and a following team a larger bear...best guess is that Mom was looking for “that darn kid”. No interaction with the bears, (no worries) just the fun of seeing them in their habitat.

August brings the “Poker Run” with the pace, on August 22, so if you’re feeling lucky, bring some cash, along with some friends and take a chance. For the poker run, five stations along the trail will have cards in sealed envelopes. Collect one from each of the 5 stations and bring the unopened envelopes back to the finish. The envelopes will be opened by the management, and the best poker hand (5 card, nothing wild) will be the winner, and will receive half of the poker pot. It costs $10 to buy a chance at a hand. And if you don’t want to play poker, no problem, the pace will run as usual.

We have had some requests for larger/more jumps, and have already been working on them, so look for more new jumps. Randy loves seeing those hoofprints on both sides of the fences!

We hope to see you next month, and hope again, for a little drier weather, but as always, we will ride Rain or Shine!

The June pace was a test of our "Rain or Shine" philosophy, with heavy rain for much of the morning. Hats off to the hearty souls that came, rode and had a good time! The warm temepratures and no wind made the conditions easier.

We had a good turnout, with several 'first timers' joining us. We're always glad to see old friends and to welcome newcomers to the event. Even with the rain, the riders enjoyed the trail and jumped the jumps! And in once again, very closely spaced times.

The next pace is July 18, and as always, we’ll ride rain or shine (and we really hope for the shine). Bring your favorite horse, and favorite friends and come for the fun of it! We hope to see you at the Big Loop in a few weeks!

After waiting all winter, the first pace of the season is already history! We had a great day for riding, after heavy downpours earlier in the week. The trails were dry, the creeks weren’t too high and spirits were high.

We had a great turnout, and it was fun to see friends from last year as well as greet new riders. Interestingly, all riders this trip rode in the Open division and the times were all within 6 minutes of the optimum time, so pretty close for the placings.

The next pace is June 20, and as always, we’ll ride rain or shine. Bring your favorite horse, and favorite friends and come for the fun of it! We hope to see you at the Big Loop in a few weeks!

October ended our season with another perfect riding day, even tho it was 'seasonably' cool. The colors were bright, the horses frisky and riders were ready for the last pace of the season--some even turned out in Halloween colors!

We had a great turnout for this ride, and again had some new riders come for their first pace, and whom we hope will come back next year to continue the fun. The times for the rides were tightly bunched, with less than a 10 minute difference from first to 6th place. Considering the length of the ride, we tip our hats to all the riders and their ability to rate their horses at a good hunter 'pace'!

Folks who stayed for the ribbons enjoyed the camarderie that sharing good horses and horse stories creates. And of course, the food helped too. The snacks to celebrate the end of the pace were a treat, and we thank all who brought the tasty delights.

We'll be posting pictures from all the 2008 paces soon on the web, so check again. We are already talking about next year and we will be back. We hope you will too. With the new tractor comes plans for even more trails and jumps, so stay tuned and we'll keep you posted. Our goal continues to provide an opportunity for exciting fun and safe rides.

The results of the pace are listed below. We congratulate all of our riders on great efforts and super sportsmanship. Thru the season, the placings have shifted and changed as riders have tested their horses and themselves at different levels. We are delighted to see the progress and the changes thru the season. Congratulations to our winners for this pace and to our season High Point winners! See you all next year!

September brought another perfect day and we were happy to have it for the "Superpace". Twenty-one riders all opted to do the full ride, and all made it back to the barn with their horses, tired, but mostly smiling. Sunny and a bit cool, perfect for a long ride. We had several riders take their horses in for a swim and many who tried the jumps more than once! Randy loves to hear that, and it encourages him to build more!

This ride was our first attempt at such a long ride and we were pleased that so many were so brave. October will be a bit shorter and we should have beautiful fall colors to enjoy. We will also have the end of season awards, and 'afterglow' chili so hope you'll stay for a bit. If you'd like to bring a dish to pass, feel free!

Our last pace for the season is October 18, Rain or Shine, so we hope you'll join us. We look forward to seeing you all. Bring your favorite horse and some good friends and have some fun!

The results of the pace are listed below. Please note there is a change in the open rider pinnings. The management reviewed the results and revisited our standing policy of pinning based on the time closest to optimum. We have tried to use that as our baseline, and have not eliminated people for going off course or getting lost in the past. We know it happens, and we know generally that when it occurs, it sorts itself out in the overall times. My apologies for any confusion, but we felt it important to remain consistent with our criteria. It has been and remains our goal to provide an opportunity for fun and a safe ride. We hope that you understand and support that plan. Congratulations to our riders!

We have had a string of good luck with weather this year, and August was no exception. Sunny and not too hot. Several riders opted to try their hand at Poker, and the lucky winner with a pair of queens was Linda Kotlarsz. From all reports, everyone enjoyed the ride and the addition of a variety of jumps.

The "Superpace" is set for September. A 12 mile ride (+/-) will be the plan, with a shorter alternate route if you are concerned about the length. There are about 35 jump efforts and as always, jumps will be optional with easy go rounds. Come and enjoy the longer ride, at a walk or at pace speed.

Our next pace is September 20, Rain or Shine, so we hope you'll join us. We look forward to seeing you all. Bring your favorite horse and some good friends and have some fun!

July was a super day for a ride, and the riders who came enjoyed good weather, and a great trail. The trails were in great shape, even after lots of rain during the week. New jumps were a challenge to some, and the addition of more smaller jumps made others happy as well.

We again had new riders who have traveled a good distance to join us. We appreciate the effort that takes and are pleased that you have joined us. We hope you all will return. We even had riders from Wisconsin, via Chautauqua this month. Always fun to welcome new riders and meet new people.

Feeling lucky? August 23 brings the annual Poker run, with the pace. Buy a 'hand', collect cards along the trail and bring them back unopened. The winner with the best hand will get half of the poker pot.

The June pace day turned out to be another super riding day. Yet again, rain the night before, but the sun came out making for perfect riding weather. We had a great group of riders, as always, and some first timers, including some who traveled quite a ways(who we hope will return). Good reports on the jumps and trails and everybody left smiling. Even Miss Muddy Butt, who demonstrated a graceful 'HRS' (horse/rider separation)into a mud puddle!

We also were treated to a cowboy mounted shooting demonstration by Eric Stormer and Muldoon Macaroon. Eric and 'Mac', a 16 yr old Morgan, did two patterns for us, with nary a miss on the targets. They made galloping thru a complicated pattern and shooting balloons look easy. It was fun to watch and we appreciated the extra time and effort Eric and Erica put in, bringing the cones, and setting up. Randy did an admirable job of blowing up the balloons!

Our next pace is July 12, Rain or Shine, so we hope you'll join us. We look forward to seeing you all.

The first pace of the season turned out to be a great riding day. The sun came out after a wet night, and the trails dried up nicely. Some of our riders took all of our jumps, which makes Randy very happy! He is already planning more and different jumps for the rest of the season, so look for some new challenges this year. It was great to see old friends as well as have some new riders join us, including another mother/daughter team.

Our next pace is June 21, Rain or Shine, so we hope you'll join us. Weather and babysitters permitting, we hope to have one of our teams also give a "Cowboy Mounted Shooting" demonstration in the afternoon, around 2:30pm, so plan to stay and see this new riding adventure. Who knows, it may be something you will want to get involved with!
